If you've ever wondered why some Enfield No.4's have a plate brazed into the top of the receiver it was supposedly to stiffen the action.
The man who did them; usually for GE Fulton was none other than Major Walter Magny, seen in this clip winning the 1976 Queens final.
As far as I remember, this mod was only carried out when they were re-barrelled to 7.62 from .303.
Yes I should have made that clearer; if I thought it made the action any better I would have bought one myself!

Yes I enjoyed it too, and learnt a fair bit.

I find myself wearing a shirt and tie to quite a few events these days however they are all game related, today was still a couple of sweaters and scarf with a warm jacket. (Roll on Spring)

It was certainly thought provoking seeing it so many years after it was made.
At one point the presenter was waving a rifle around on Stickledown with cars in front of him - can't see that going down well now.
Also I can't imagine the current BBC endorsing an activity where people gain innocent enjoyment from firing handguns at targets.

That's Chris Roads who is President of the HBSA, when that was filmed he was curator of small arms at the Imperial War Museum.
I attended a lecture he gave last year about match rifles. He still shoots MR with the Cambridge University Rifle Association, and for the last few years he has been helping the Sultanate of Oman set up a small arms museum.
