All the 7.62 tracer I have used ignites way down range - some Malaysian stuff that does not ignite until 350 - 400 yards out and RG that ignites after 100 yards. I believe it is called dark ignition and I was told by someone involved with ammunition research that nothing much is happening in the barrel that would cause any damage. That said 22lr might be a whole different kettle of fish as the ignition process is simpler and due to restricted range it lights almost immediately. In any case I would imagine that the tracer compound burns cooler than propellant gases, but if the burn is initiated in the barrel there might be some corrosive residue requiring a good clean after shooting.

Thats cheap!.....the 54r tracer I got was a £1 a round, bought the last 300!

Not had a problem shooting it as the tracer compound doesn't ignite until it gets 80-100m, barrel no dirtier afterwards than with standard Russian military ammo.

I don't understand why any body would waste good money on tracer ammunition of any caliber. I don't get it at all. But feel free its your money you are wasting.

It comes in handy when shooting at 1000m at Sennybridge with the Dragunov , that's the reason I bought it......and because I could!.

Bradaz, where do I sign? Alpha1, cheer up man, laser beams from guns are cool. You can get an evening of them for the price of pub visit.

Wasted money. Tsk.

I've seen people spend £250 on a HiFi power cable.

When you are at Lydd or Sennybridge tracer is perfect for ranging targets and proving wind estimation, those fig 11's are a bugger to hit on the best of days.
Then there is the "tracer through the APC window" challenge - it's great FUN but if that's not your thing......
