Not sure what would happen if we bought another rifle, lasbrisas, I guess we'd both have to cough for a variation.
Not going to happen though. In fact we're going to sell the 308 shortly.

lasbrisas wrote:Thanks for all the replies so far, my son still lives at home, we do all our shooting together. When he had his initial grant they added what I already had to his FAC, the main one being the section 1 shotgun which as you all probably know needs to be on your FAC before you can shoot it. At no point has he been told he can't shoot any of the rifles, as far as I know it's only sec 1 shotguns and LBP and LBR that need to be on your FAC to shoot them. Also when he turned 18 I rang to confirm that he can have access to the cabinet and was told yes no problem, so looking at the comments so far are there grey areas that need clarification. I would have thought if my son does exactly the same shooting at the same time as me then he has the "good reason".
The reasons you quote are all valid reasons, all I can say is my FLA stated on the license that I could access/ transport etc my fathers rifles but I couldn't shoot them, (I could if he was there, but I couldn't take them to the range on my own and use them).
The easy route for transfer of ownership is to speak to your FLA and ask them to make your son the primary owner for all of the weapons, then technically you own nothing and he owns them all, so when that fateful day comes there is no issue etc about ownership just storage etc.

This is an interesting topic. My father will be 83 in a few months.... he has a number of rifles and 20+ shoguns. We touched on the subject with the FLO at my last certificates renewal and the consensus was that they could be transferred over to me when the fateful time comes. I'd only want to keep a couple of his rifles (lever actions and maybe enfields).... and a few of his shotguns.

I just don't quite see how they can allow you to have access to firearms yet not allow you to fire them. Does it actually say that on your ticket?

IIRC thats what it said, basically access was allowed but not to fire because that would have techincally been a free variation if I had been able to shoot them also.
HH, if you and your father are on joint tickets just get him to write a letter to the FLD signing ownership over to you.
