Have you looked at any other makes?
The Steel Core Cyclone is every bit as good as the AI. My .308 is extremely competitive at 1,000 yards with a good handload.

It depends on what you consider to be expensive. AIs aren't cheap either.

Only by £1546!
AI AT 24" or 26" threaded currently listed at £3429.
Oddly enough in the review of the Steel Core they don't mention barrel length, only to say that a shorter 20" is available.
