Shooting it down is a big no-no and will get the shooter in a load of trouble.

If my mate didn't have his kids at the range I would have mooned it, shooting it didn't occur to me...Mattnall wrote: Shooting it down is a big no-no and will get the shooter in a load of trouble.

If it was flown within 50 metres of the public or vehicles or other property that could be damaged then the operator is breaking the law. Unless they have a permit.

A DJI Inspire is a serious piece of kit, the operator could've (literally) been miles away. More than likely just harmless curiosity rather than something insidious.
I would mention that some police forces have bought them though so definitely not a good idea to have a pot shot!

Re: Drone spying on range.
Inspire has a range of up to 5km. The fact someone is using an inspire would worry me as they are very much a professional bit of kit. Someone with a Phantom or Mavic I would say its just someone messing about or being nosey but the inspire can easily run to 5 or 6 grand with a decent camera. Not cheap. Camera (4K) is also zoom capable plus its possible to fly with more powerful cameras..

Re: Drone spying on range.
why would it worry you?
It's most likely to be someone knows there is/was a quarry there, so flew it over to have a look, and found a rifle range. so what if they have a watch? what are they really going to see? would they see any more than someone pulling into the car park and walking straight in?
yes you would ask them to leave, but they have already seen guns etc, and have seen all your cars etc.
I'd only start to worry if it was there again next time you are there etc, but what can you really do about it?

When guns are outlawed, only Outlaws will have guns
Re: Drone spying on range.
The difference is someone walking on to the range facility could be captured on CCTV, someone operating a drone wouldn't. Therefore if they are up to no good, using a drone protects their identity.bradaz11 wrote:why would it worry you?

Re: Drone spying on range.
It's a bit more difficult to steal a rifle and ammo with a drone at the moment. Any other 'no good' intent (casing the joint or watching and identifying the users and their vehicles etc.) could most likely be carried out without getting on the property or captured on any CCTV.RDC wrote:The difference is someone walking on to the range facility could be captured on CCTV, someone operating a drone wouldn't.
