Re: Blackening alloy
Thank you for your "cheaper" link Bam Bam
It slipped by me as I found out my project torch mount won't fit a varmint barrel so was put on hold. Measuring accurately not my strong point
Anyway, I now know there are chemicals out there to blacken brass and aluminium so not all was a waste of time.

I found the brass blackening didn’t work when I tried it on an Uberti 1851 frame and it rubbed off a couple of cases as a test, really easily.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Blackening alloy
Best brass blacking I have found is black powder fouling.
My brass framed underlevers are getting a real nice patina with black powder loads, I don't clean the outsides just a wipe down. I am sure I could accelerate the blacking by more targeted applications of black powder fouling.
