Marlin all the way, had mine for 19 years, never missed a beat, few broken firing pins.
Next year there will be more choice available. May have to stick a variation in for a new comp gun

TOO BIG A PIC!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Oddly enough earlier today I was fondling an Uberti 1873 in .357 at Kranks. Lovely out of the box - beautifully made and a lovely slick action. The wood was a bit disappointing at comfortably over a grand but I can see the attraction.
I also fondled a Henry Big Boy steel earlier in the week and that was similarly well finished and even nicer to hold. The tube load is a bit odd but unless you’re doing action shooting and need to top up a round or two I think I would get used to it.

Mines a Marlin cowboy 24" octagonal barrel. One piece firing pin, happy trigger kit and super slick. Even bought its little brother a marlin Texan .22
The last guns I'd ever sell!

Re: Good under lever recommendation please
I am currently shooting three Uberti's.
1860 Henry 44-40
1866 Winchester 32-20
1873 Winchester 38-40
All excellent shooters out of the box with black powder and smokeless loads, the 1866 did need some tweaking but it was do that or return it and wait another three years for the order to come round.
The quality is up there now with Uberti, availability is the issue they advertise an extensive range of combinations but what is available especially here in the UK is limited. I had a three year wait for my 32-20, the 38-40 is the carbine version and I prefer the longer barrels but that was all I could get in the calibre I have to say this rifle has brought me round some to the shorter rifles.

Re: Good under lever recommendation please
I too bought a Uberti after shooting club Marlins (felt agricultural), a friends Henry (solid but dont like the tube loading) and a Winchester (after being a Winchester fan since being a kid it just didnt feel right).
Two things that should never happen in life - chicken on a pizza and a scope on a lever action. Go Uberti - you won't regret it. I shot gallery rifle on Sunday and scored 294/300 on T&P1 with iron sights.
