Re: Question for the engineers - screw within another screw
Try a rivet nut. works like a pop rivet but has a threaded hole through it.
Blind Rivet Nuts
The Blind Rivet Nut or Grip-Sert, as it was originally known, forms part of the TR Fastenings sheet metal product range. Since early 2015 we have increased our range considerably and now have more stock and variations available than ever before.
This product is designed to offer a permanent female thread in sheet metal that already has a drilled or punched hole. The Blind Rivet Nut then secures itself by collapsing the body to create a secure fit on both sides of the host material.

Re: Question for the engineers - screw within another screw
Lots of good suggestions above....
I found these 'push in with a soldering iron' threaded inserts for 3d printed parts and thought 'thats a good idea'!.....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M4-x-10pcs-T ... Sw9N1VrPxc
But all derends on application.... I do like 1/4 turn Dzus fittings if materials and design allow.

I have used these in PVC extensively. They work well, but are not cheap
