i have used bone meal and leather packed in powdered charcoal and sealed in a steel container placed in a open fire which gave good results, its a method i need to give more time to but finding that time is another thing

Here’s a 1904 manufactured in .38-40. Strongly suspect it was refinished at some time as bolt is also coloured and screws aren’t oil blued and this is a carbine, rare in itself and most carbine receivers were blued... (John Marlin trained at Colt, hence the outstanding bluing on original guns)




Now this is an original with finish remaining ! Lol 1898 manufactured in .25-20. 28” tapered octagonal barrel as well...





Modern marlins saw the Cowboy Competition, in .38spl only, having the receiver case hardened. A couple of special runs of other models, like an engraved 1897 did as well. But none matched those made 100 years before hand!
