Re: Ban on Civilian use of SARTS?
The deepest irony is Lockheed Martin UK used civilian target shooters from the ODRC (maybe other clubs as well) to do the calibration work on the new targetry system!
I remember when I was a member of ODRC the Club Secretary asking for volunteers to support the trials work.

I thought civilian clubs were stopped from using MOD field-fire ranges?

We use SARTS on Ash and Henley Park ranges. When we submit the Range Recce form we request SARTS and Landmarc provides a guy to operate it. We either use the programmed courses of fire or set the targets to bob for plinking.
Not sure how long the system will be available as LM have pulled out of supporting it.

We used to use the ETR at Altcar for PR comps so long as there was an "in date trained console operator" running the targetry
It was proper good fun

Re: Ban on Civilian use of SARTS?
At Lydd and Hythe we have never been allowed use SARTS, however we can use ETR and the field firing ranges ser 45 and 65 we cannot use any of the IBSR as of this year I’m led to believe due to another incident with the army, the only way we possibly could is with helmets and armour
.

Re: Ban on Civilian use of SARTS?
I am not sure but some places still have simple ETR targets (that either register hits when held or fall when hit and register).
I dont think we ever have scores other than hits in the end of season CSR ETR shoot at Ash, while I think the CGR at Headly Park is SARTS (with the microphone pick up for shot placement).
Might be wrong, but certainly there are still standard ETR kits out there still.
The only real hassle you can do with SARTS is to hit emergency stop. Then each coffin needs manually re-setting...how to win friends and influence people

Re: Ban on Civilian use of SARTS?
As stated earlier. Civilian clubs have never been allowed to operate SARTS systems on the Catterick ranges. Furthermore should a Landmarc qualified Range person be a member of a civilian rifle club he/she is NOT allowed to operate the system on a club range day. ANOTHER qualified Range person must be hired to operate the system.
When booking a range on the Catterick complex using the newly introduced BAMS system one must now state on an attached Email what type of targetry will be used . A copy of the club's RASP must also be attached (Maj. Fox instruction).
