I had major problems with Barclays....they asked for a list of rifles owned by the club members!!..I had a big row with the Business branch and finally got some sense...No doubt , having the word "Rifle" in your club name is a problem..
I think that Barclays closed up the hut they held at Bisley? Def anti shooting. One alternative is to open a joint account with the club treasurer and secretary as joint holders...no mention of shooting.

How would you cash a cheque with the club's name on?

you dont - cheques are made out to the name of the treasurer & transfers are easier so cheques become mostly obsolete.

I agree with the transfer however the name on the cheque is important from a tax point of view.

How many clubs (not just shooting clubs) have had their treasurers do a runner with the funds???
We use Bank of Scotland and have done since the club started in the 60's.

Transfers depend upon electronic banking, I won't send money by transfer as I have lost money this way in the past so not trustworthy.
That is irrelevant anyway as one of my banks has just updated their service and their internet banking is only available to microsh
ite OS and Explorer or Chrome browsers!
All of which I choose not to use. So with the closure of the branches I have no way of managing the account, life is too short to have to listen to sh
ite music for ages with telephone banking.

Our club is with HSBC. We've had the same account for about 50 years now.
It's a very basic current account but it is free.

Shooting clubs - None ever........ if you trust a member with a rifle why not the fiances? & the account can get interest too. Best advantage might be you can just pay for ranges, ammo, bits etc over the phone or at point of sale as a visa & you have a record of the purchase for accounts in the statement & can also record subs etc as ref=name.

Indeed.
And, our club uses Barclays as well.
