So what exactly is a zombie knife? I have multiple knives that have serrations and straight edges. But it then says it must have a name on it or me sold with a view to violence??? Does a sog desert dagger suggest violence

Remember that the Lever Release rifles were not on the original list of 'rapid firing weapons' so were not costed on the impact assessment (which waas poorly put together anyway)...so it would be lovely to see a final bill and have someone held responsible for the huge discrepancy.

They still can't give an accurate figure of what the cost of the pistol ban was!

So the Government appear to think that the total compensation bill for the non-firearm weapons to be handed in will be £200-300K.
If they are talking about £30 being the standard amount offered (like option A in the pistol hand in) then that would suggest only 10,000 qualifying weapons in the whole country.
That sounds like a rather significant underestimate.
Even if the £30 refers to a minimum total value and something like £15 per item that looks well short of the likely total.

Then again, given that they haven't actually gone out of their way to tell anyone that they will need to hand things in. And with the closure of police stations all round the country it probably being quite an effort to find somewhere to hand in that flick knife that you inherited 20 years ago or the knuckle duster you bought 35 years ago and no longer have a receipt for. 10,000 weapons might be rather more than they end up with.

I think they've heavily underestimated the number of lever release rifles too. I recall numbers of over 3,000 being bandied about before.

I've had mine so long I'd best check it hasn't gone off!

From the sounds of it, it'll be down to the plod copper at the hand in station to determine whether or not the gun being handed in meets the criteria, sounds a bit dodgy. I'm fairly certain most officers couldn't tell the difference between a MARS VZ58 and a straight pull version? Most probably couldn't tell the difference between an AK and a VZ58 to be fair!

That also means they'll likely want complete rifles too, rather than just a collection of the licensable parts

When ordered to surrender my pistols, each one had a full valuation from an RFD, especially for those that were customised. I certainly did not lose money on the guns handed in....

Me too , included in the other "acessories" was a bucketful of berdan primed 9mm cases and several sets of worn out dies and all manner of othe junk that "they" paid well over the odds for . Still hacked about the theft of my pistols though , My SIG 210 , my 1912 built 1911 commercial, my 1914 Mauser etc etc !
