So, they are removing these calibre's from S58 to stop them falling into criminal hands.... and at the same time adding a load of other calibre's. What is their justification for adding more? Not that I'm complaining... just curious.

It seems like there will be no compensation offered as there is the offer to apply to hold them on FAC.
We've seen this before with the Brocock fiasco.
Future purchases of these revolvers may be possible under section 7.1 and 7.3 but be prepared to write long essays on early cartridge revolvers to justify that you are a genuine collector.

The document states that if you have one of these you can apply for an FAC or add it to an existing FAC without having to provide good reason. The big downside is that these guns will likely take a big drop in value after they are on ticket.

So if you had a revolver in 44 Russian for example who would even know. It's currently not a licensable item.

no one, but if it gets found in the future in your possession and it is not on your FAC, you'd be charged for possession of a sec5
