I agree. I will ask that as part of my question to the NSC/NRA. I imagine it is because Chobham Ridge comes with a 'supervisor' who observes the confirmatory shot at 200. Surely, if you have a Safe Shooter Cert, you could be trusted to hit a target at 200 without supervision...

It might also be so expensive as it is a separate facility. That's why I'm wondering if 'just hanging some gongs' on Stickledown might make it cheaper for the shooters.

I will type up an letter and push it over the Bisley this weekend, I'll post on the response when I hear back.

I think it's about 10 years ago they were removed, which would explain the lack of use!

I last shot it back in about 2005 at the Imperial Service Rifle matches, the knockout went on until very late in the evening - I don't think it finished much before 20:00.

I'm in the same camp, as are a few others in my club that only have interest on vintage Milsurps rather than target rifles, and would love it for Bisley to have a dedicated gong setup instead of black dots on pieces of paper that a 80+ year old .303 etc with battle sights is not suitable for.

And given the NRA's recent survey sent out this week to members relating to their questionable charity status aspect, this would certainly be a very obvious way of addressing that subject as well. In theory, the NRA should be all over this idea like a rash......
But I won't hold my breath.....

There was a theoretical opportunity many years back to have etr fig 11`s installed on a couple of lanes of Stix.

There isn't any alternative really. When Covids done, my Club will have a session I think. But right now it's limited to 5 people shooting from 10.00 until 14.00. Too much £ I'm afraid. Do you know anyone who's shot it?

There was a theoretical opportunity many years back to have etr fig 11`s installed on a couple of lanes of Stix.

Orion worked out cheaper when we went earlier in the year. You get a whole day plus instruction and the opportunity to shoot out to over a mile.

Plates that were on stickledown have been demolished but i believe the mechanisms are stored somewhere. The great fun! falling plates match is held on Pirbright or Ash. NRA is now broke again thanks to c19 & legal costs defending its charitable status & fighting litigation. As a charity & with its current charitable objectives it currently cant spend members money on anything that does not further its charitable aims. Am not saying plates wouldn't do that, i think they would, but its a series of steps; 1st is remain solvent & get revenues flowing again. Refund the banks, retain charitable status, then maybe spend funds on ideas like this.

Write in with the idea (Wells - ranges & Mercer - ceo or Lacey the chair) & point out that running falling & shooting are closer to what the charities commission believe is charitable activity (physical healthy ish etc) that it would be popular with serving / X service members, which is what the cc want to hear.

To get it adopted you need to get the shooting committee on side. so fid the chair & send them a proposal & why it would be good to have / do.

Had i made the Gen Council I would have supported this idea t but alas pipped by about 50 votes by someone whos only attended once in 2-3 years! . Maybe next time. ;-)

Which just proves that the people running the NRA are not fit for purpose, as first thing should have been to make sure they promoted the type of shooting within the NRA that met those charitable status requirements more......
