Insist on a temporary permit and do so in writing. Also get them to confirm once again in writing that your temporary permit will allow you to continue to use your firearms and not simply to possess them.

I personally think that a shooter who is deprived of the use of his firearms while a police force have been lax in renewing the certificate should be able to apply for a pro-rata rebate on the fee. How about the shooting organisations taking up this idea. Likewise where delays in renewing have occurred through no fault of the shooter and as a result the shooter has been required to lodge his guns with a dealer the cost of storage should be bourne by the police. After all we are not getting the service that we pay for and instead inefficiency is being rewarded by proposed increases in fees.

I wonder what would happen if some enterprising journalist was to collect stats on how many forces don't get renewed FACs back out in time to keep people legally safe, and refused to issue temporary permits in the meantime?

They also refuse to give temp. permits...or, should I say, have never issued when I approached them to do so....

Tayside are the same.

'Northern' will issue them, if pressed. ;)

(not that I'm saying anything untoward about Northern, on the whole they are pretty good and they have a vast area to cover).

I asked about a temp permit so i could at least sell the AR but they said no.

When i rang about the delay they said that they are behind, i also know that Lincs Police are privatising the civilian work force soon, so will it get better or worse?

Don't ring them, write to them. If you don't get a formal reply in writing make a complaint and be prepared to follow it up. Also get your shooting organisation involved if you don't belong to one shame on you.

My FLO called in for a brew week before last as he was "passing" I live down a dead end!!

Anyway, during the conversation he just happened to mention that he had 2000+ visits on his list!! (renewals, Issues, Variations, Land checks) - No wonder my simple change of address took them 8 months!

He does about 6/8 visits a day depending on the geographic spread of them - someday it is a lot less.

That must be why Northern farm out the visits to the local plod. Even by Helicopter our FLO couldn't get round a fraction of the geographical area in a day.

I'm in no doubt that the FLO and the departments are doing their best witht he resources they have, I can only imagine the pressure on their time.

The worst thing that could happen is decisions are rushed into and then a tragedy happens because of an oversight or something getting missed.

I intend to write in but why whilst expressing my concerns in the delays but also the fact that they are obviously understaffed and over worked, hopefully these letters get passed on up the chain of command as justification for more bodies, but in this climate of cut back and make do I doubt anyone is listening.

Many people have commented on the proposed rises in cost of FAC/Renewal/Variations, I am personally amazed that the costs haven't gone up in years and would gladly pay more money to have the service we think we should have.

If I'm honest I spend more money in our works cafe in a month than my FAC costs for the five year period :G

One would find some disturbing data, me thinks ;)
