Dr S....the serial numbers are marked over the year of production as you can see.
The numbers run sequentially from 1 to 1,000 with a letter (or letters), so you get 1 to 1,000 followed by the letters A to Z, then 1 to 1,000 followed by AA to ZZ.....and so on....mine is as per the photo 224 DZ-1915
It also shows the regiment, which in this case is the 2nd Company (Depot Train) Canadian Army Service Corps.

Thanks for your kind offers, gents, but I think I'll pass!
Targetman - I've found someone who is selling reproductions of the Ross Rifle Story for $100 a pop plus shipping!! I think I'll pass..
I think I'll register on the Ross Rifle forum and see if they can help me decipher my stock markings!

DrS.....I was lucky and got my new copy of the Ross Rifle Story from ebay some years ago at a very reasonable price....although I have not seen one offered since.
The Ross forum is good, plenty of info.....made some good contacts via the site

That is lucky! I'll keep my eye out on eBay, $100 is too much for a book, regardless of how valuable it is!
Edit - the Ross Rifle Forum isn't accepting new memberships! Is there any chance you could PM an admin and ask if I could register, please?

To clarify, I meant people could have a look at the Ross. I'm a guest of BNZs club - I can't let you shoot on their range!

Bnz has prised the Ross from Dr. Strangeloves fingers. Can't make a run for it though as he has hold of his newly aquired Remington. Both seem to be shooting well.

Maybe you can trip him up once the Remington is back and leg it with the Ross?

Sorry to disappoint but the Ross is still with me! It shot well, although the foresight block is canted to the left. Will get it sorted though!
