Just out of curiosity, what is the definition of a monolithic bullet? The reason I ask is because isn't a cast bullet (or boolit if you like) technically a monolithic bullet as it primarily all lead?

Without a definition a bullet made from lead, seems to me, no different to a bullet made from Copper, Zinc or Aluminium, regardless of whether they are turned on a lathe or cast.

Per the Bisley Bible available at http://www.nra.org.uk/common/files/bibl ... e_main.pdf: Appendix II, Para 2. 2.b...

"2. Unless the CE has given prior permission in writing, use of the
following on Bisley ranges is prohibited:

...

b) Projectiles of any construction other than lead core with
gilding metal or soft iron jacket, including specifically
mono-metallic bullets (ie made from a single metal) except
solid lead bullets."

Solid lead bullets are specifically excluded; although I agree that you could argue that they are "monolithic", being made of a single, reasonably homogenous material.

This does raise a potential loophole in that (In theory at least) CNC machined bullet cases with a lead core could be used in competition were someone to produce such a thing, obviously a change to the rules specifying a maximum jacket thickness would overcome such antics.

GazM,
Thank for the clarification, cheers. :good:

Ovenpaa,
You might find this thread interesting - http://sabisley.freeforums.org/jacket-t ... s-t86.html

My question is (and it is somewhat hypothetical  ), what happens if a lead ban is successfully introduced or if the MoD decides to follow the US and introduces 'green' ammo - http://www.firearmsid.com/Feature%20Art ... ullets.htm ?

Hi All

All valid points - We know they banned but there is food for thought in the design and application.

For those that hunt locally or offshore the HP and HV range are worthy of looking at in the interim
