They have just begun the 2nd reading now.

Some good representations against the firearms content already. This isn't going to be a slam dunk for the HO.

I wish they'd stop calling them weapons though - they are firearms not weapons.....

What has the ownership of illegally obtained weapons in Northern Ireland during the troubles got to do with the public ownership of legally held firearms!

The Good Friday Agreement and the subsequent decommissioning of paramilitary weapons sorted out that issue!

Utter nonsense reason given for banning any firearm!

Summary so far:
Zero support for the firearms changes from the Tories.
Labour more concerned with Police cuts then details in the Bill.
Javid conveniently forgot how effective the handgun ban has been when challenged.
Antique and obsolete firearms mentioned, but that's a red herring in relation to this Bill.
There's a general feeling that more legislation and bans in themselves aren't going to fix the problems anyway.

I don't see this Bill having an easy passage in it's current form and in any case there's very little time to get it all done before the summer break.
We do have allies in the House of Commons and we'll have some in the Lords.
Shooting organisations need to continue their lobbying and we need to continue writing to our MPs after each stage of the Bill reinforcing any objections brought up and restating our position.

Yep that pretty much was my view on it, Ian Duncan Smith was excellent in the way he put over the issue of by their logic all firearms are potentially dangerous and where will this stop..

It does seem though that whoever briefed some of those MPs didn't do a good job for mars & LR owners. There's further work to do there. They are in danger of being categorised with bump stocks as a way to get a semi auto, which is obviously poppycock.
