Yes it's an SKS.It was phased out of frontline use in the mid-50s' by the AK-47 but continued in use by rear echelon troops for decades and was in use in 80s' Afghanistan and even into the early 90s' by drivers, artillery crews and cooks etc.It is also still used as a ceremonial parade rifle in Russia.

Quite popular in the US, Canada and New Zealand. 7.62x39 happens to be a great entry deer round. The haven't many russian ones in the us due to import laws, but the Yugo ones fill a gap. The Canadians get all the Russian ones now. I see to recall the American's and Canadians got a version made in the Norinco factory that took AK mags. Two versions, one called the D and the other M.

It is also still used as a ceremonial parade rifle in Russia.

I kinda fell in love with the SKS the first time I crossed the "wall" in Berlin in 1987 admiring the Friedrich Engels NVA Guards Regiment goose stepping down Unter den Linden to the Neu Wache, one of Schinkel's splendid master piece

Friendly cossacks looking straight out of a Denikin wild raid ... I would have expected a Nagant revolver but it does not look like one - Any idea what is that revolver with a threaded barrel ?

I reckon a Gasser type, probably if Belgian manufacture around a .442 cal. I don't think the muzzle is threaded, it looks more like a foresight barrel band a little way back from the muzzle. Black powder revolvers of European manufacture did place fore sights further back so that they weren't fouled and hence the sight picture distorted during extended use.

That and a silencer on a revolver other than a Nagant just won't work if I'm correct Sim?

The Nagant is one of the rare revolver that works well with a moderator due to their quite unique round .
However other revolvers can be moderated as well , ie : Here is one that my son made earlier with his Blue Peter club (*)

Never even knew she was ex-PLA until she saw the rifle on display at the Royal Armouries in Leeds; as she then gave me a marching demo there & then...
