Who?
Presumably the British Shooting Sports Council, the umbrela group of shooting organisations.
I really do wonder what it is they do?

They had a nice stand at Shooting Show I guess but other than that?

He also at the time posted .........."Perhaps I am being over-cautious, but we have had a fair number of club members followed home, assaulted in their driveways and guns stolen because a certain RFD wasn't careful enough with personal data. "

I replied to him ......."That is one hell of a statement , can you be more specific on the location so that we can all avoid it ? "

So far he seems unable to reply .
I can reply .... but I am limited as to what I can say publicly.

The situation happened earlier this year and the facts are:

One evening a person who is a RFD was at one of the gun clubs that I attend.
They left the club and drove a short distance to another address on their way home.
They parked their car and later came back to find it had been broken into.
Amongst the items taken were his RFD ledger/files with his customers names, addresses and other details (purchases).

As a result we were warned that if we had had any dealings with this particular RFD within the last 3 years or so, to start to worry.
(I believe that some members guns were taken by the Police into safe storage due to the risk of burglary / mugging).

Club members were targeted by these criminals...... people would drive home from the club unaware that masked criminals were lying in wait, ready to pounce. Club members were mugged/threatened in their driveways as soon as they started to get out of their cars to unload their guns and take them indoors.

I don't know the final number of people targeted by these criminals, but I heard it was into double figures.

One nice old guy was so badly shaken up and affected by the ordeal that he has completely given up his hobby.

At least its nice to hear a version of events that does not involve “assault rifles and gangster guns”

Like you I am still probably limited in what I can say , in fact several people were requested by CID to say nothing .

No it didnt , it was over 12 months ago .

There was no RFD ledger or files with customers names or details taken. What was taken was a small carbon copy type receipt book that had personal scores and loading data in it , and a notebook that had prices for guns and accessories .

As a result we were warned that if we had had any dealings with this particular RFD within the last 3 years or so, to start to worry.

There was one common factor in these thefts , all the people concerned were followed home from the club , as was verified by the police with stills from cctv outside the club. CID had suggested that the club may have been watched by the thieves for some time but could not be 100% sure of this due to cctv footage being copied over .

I don't know the final number of people targeted by these criminals, but I heard it was into double figures.

Four people were targeted by this gang , the RFD was the second . I had been told that the fourth person targetted had never had any dealings with the RFD , maybe that is the case .

One nice old guy was so badly shaken up and affected by the ordeal that he has completely given up his hobby.

I have not replied to some of your comments simply because I have not heard or been told about them , so it would be pointless to answer them .

I too thought that it happened last year, but when I spoke to someone at the club the other night they said it was this year... time flies.

There was no RFD ledger or files with customers names or details taken. What was taken was a small carbon copy type receipt book that had personal scores and loading data in it , and a notebook that had prices for guns and accessories .

Okay, but that is not what I was told.... but at least we both agree that club members were warned about the risk of having been a customer of this particular RFD.

CID had suggested that the club may have been watched by the thieves for some time but could not be 100% sure of this due to cctv footage being copied over .

Which might explain how and why this particular RFD was targeted when he parked up at another address close to the club.

Then that would be the guy I described as being shaken up. He mainly used the club for his Archery and he owned an airgun, that was all...

I have not replied to some of your comments simply because I have not heard or been told about them , so it would be pointless to answer them .

My sources indicate that considerably more than just four members were victims...

Bottom line.... we all need to be careful so as not to draw unwanted attention. To be vigilant and aware of the risks.

Anyone who does this should be immediately investigated by the police/mental health officials as the person is effectively saying either, they can't be trusted with the firearms or they genuinely believe that guns have magical hypno-powers that can turn people into killers kukkuk
I'm a deeply cynical old soul. I followed that link and immediately saw someone using this tragedy to their advantage - cheap widespread media attention to funnelled towards their cafe business. You can't miss it - there's a double decker parked outside - come see the virtue-signaller in the flesh.

He either wasn't that into shooting in the first place or he's willing to put it aside for now whilst capitalizing on the attention.
His claims as to the value of the items he turned over are just as laughable.

People say write to your MP's explaining that these guns aren't used in crimes so a ban is uncalled for. They aren't stupid and they know damn well they're not being used in criminal activity, you're just telling them what they already know. I suspect they already have pre-written generic letters printed out in response to angry shooters and businesses. When they push through with this they will talk of an aggressive gun lobby and any attempts to defend ourselves will be labeled as attacks by the government and media like the Guardian. It's possible they could use the term rapid firing as an excuse to place a blanket ban on anything that isn't bolt action and once those are banned or restricted almost out of existence they will then start eying up our bolt actions and single shots- for our own safety of course. I suspect they may say that any firearms that fall under their category of rapid firing guns must be kept at an approved gun club or police station and that they're doing us a favor by allowing us to 'keep' them. No point speculating really until we know for sure. I'm starting to dislike living in the UK and not just because of gun issues.

I guess we will have to wait and see

I hold up to a 1000 rounds of 9mm which would become useless if they confiscate my SGC LR.

If they announce a total ban then I have a full supply of 7.62x39 to get through in a short space of time. That'll be a busy range day for me.
