Re: Simple spotting scope system
Just for laughs I tried photgraphing a waxing gibbous moon with the spotting scope system.
The small picture was taken with the Chinese webcam at x27 mag.
The larger picture was with the Bresser camera. At this point there was some light cloud passing the moon hence the darker picture.
Both images were captured with SharpCap on a Linx 7 tablet.
A field telescope is not ideal for astrophotography as the focussing is a bit coarse.

Using phone through spotting scope. Not sure where the right hand side has gone.

OK, here's your starter for 10.Dellboy wrote:Has anyone got a complete list of what they used please
Spotting scope: Mine is a 25 year old Opticron 75x27. The older models are available at a reasonable price.
USB camera: I used https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-USB-2-0 ... 2749.l2649
Means of attaching camera to eyepiece: I used a cut down 35mm film canister. Alternatively you could buy a camera with adapter attached like this one (if it fits your eyepiece): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-25-Telesco ... 1006.m3226
OTG cable: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Micro-USB-Ma ... 2749.l2649 (connects camera to tablet/smartphone)
OTG compliant tablet or smartphone: Android phone with this free app from the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... a&hl=en_GB or Windows tablet with this free software: https://www.sharpcap.co.uk/sharpcap/downloads

That's nice. What resolution is the phone camera?knewmans wrote:Using phone through spotting scope. Not sure where the right hand side has gone.
The Chinese webcam is 0.3MP while my Bresser telescope camera is 2MP.

Re: Simple spotting scope system
I forgot two things:
1) A tripod
2) A big thank you to Allan for inventing the system and sharing it with us

Is that why you can see the craters on the top edge, or do you have a better telescope?knewmans wrote:Think the phone is 12MP
