the one thing that Rudd appears to want to get through is that stupid law that will ban even the private poessoesion of certain knives, ban mail order of knives and more laws on acid or bleech which will be used to show the sheep that they are doing something

They aren't stupid and they know damn well they're not being used in criminal activity, you're just telling them what they already know. I suspect they already have pre-written generic letters printed out in response to angry shooters and businesses. When they push through with this they will talk of an aggressive gun lobby and any attempts to defend ourselves will be labeled as attacks by the government and media like the Guardian. It's possible they could use the term rapid firing as an excuse to place a blanket ban on anything that isn't bolt action and once those are banned or restricted almost out of existence they will then start eying up our bolt actions and single shots- for our own safety of course. I suspect they may say that any firearms that fall under their category of rapid firing guns must be kept at an approved gun club or police station and that they're doing us a favor by allowing us to 'keep' them. No point speculating really until we know for sure. I'm starting to dislike living in the UK and not just because of gun issues.
I beg to differ: WRITE to your MP explaining the situation, as most are lacking in knowledge about firearms & their place in today's society. Mine certainly had no idea as to what vermin control entailed, or keeping the deer population in check & why it was needed. I actually received a letter of thanks for helping her understand something of which she knew little.
Despite the usual stereotyping, most MP's are indeed interested in representing the views of their constituents to a greater or lesser degree.

Really? Where did you get that from?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Very true - there's lots of potential outcomes - seizure being the worst...

But, even if they are moved to S5, as you say - rights may be grandfathered in (although that's not much better as it effectively kills any sport / competitive use - not to mention hurting the companies that have designed and invested in them).

Next is a possible exemption for genuine competitive shooters. They allowed hunters expanding ammo while it was S5 - we could push for the same concession - nudge, nudge NRA, BASC, FCSA, UKPSA.

They could add extra requirements - like the way some police forces mandate UKPSA membership for S1 shotguns?

Or, they might look at the facts and decide it's not in anyone's interest to pursue and leave things as is - again, our shooting associations need to stand up for us - and we all need to write to our MPs etc.

From Article 1 of the Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms

Protection of property
Every natural or legal person is entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of his possessions. No one shall be deprived of his possessions except in the public interest and subject to the conditions provided for by law and by the general principles of international law.

Given the complete absence of any criminal misuse of a MARS or lever release rifle or of a legally owned .50 calibre rifle, bans would seem difficult to justify as being in the public interest.

They don't need to justify it.
