I beg to differ: WRITE to your MP explaining the situation, as most are lacking in knowledge about firearms & their place in today's society. Mine certainly had no idea as to what vermin control entailed, or keeping the deer population in check & why it was needed. I actually received a letter of thanks for helping her understand something of which she knew little.Lozza79 wrote:People say write to your MP's explaining that these guns aren't used in crimes so a ban is uncalled for. They aren't stupid and they know damn well they're not being used in criminal activity, you're just telling them what they already know. I suspect they already have pre-written generic letters printed out in response to angry shooters and businesses. When they push through with this they will talk of an aggressive gun lobby and any attempts to defend ourselves will be labeled as attacks by the government and media like the Guardian. It's possible they could use the term rapid firing as an excuse to place a blanket ban on anything that isn't bolt action and once those are banned or restricted almost out of existence they will then start eying up our bolt actions and single shots- for our own safety of course. I suspect they may say that any firearms that fall under their category of rapid firing guns must be kept at an approved gun club or police station and that they're doing us a favor by allowing us to 'keep' them. No point speculating really until we know for sure. I'm starting to dislike living in the UK and not just because of gun issues.
Really? Where did you get that from?SevenSixTwo wrote: Not this time round. It's for your own good, remember?...

Very true - there's lots of potential outcomes - seizure being the worst...joe wrote:grandfather rights ? done before with the brococks
or you never know the nra et al have managed to put a stop to this rubbish; there hasnt been a masscare (uk), the media are not demanding gun bans the ones pushing for this is plod !
the one thing that Rudd appears to want to get through is that stupid law that will ban even the private poessoesion of certain knives, ban mail order of knives and more laws on acid or bleech which will be used to show the sheep that they are doing something
They don't need to justify it.The Event wrote:From Article 1 of the Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms

Every natural or legal person is entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of his possessions. No one shall be deprived of his possessions except in the public interest and subject to the conditions provided for by law and by the general principles of international law.
Given the complete absence of any criminal misuse of a MARS or lever release rifle or of a legally owned .50 calibre rifle, bans would seem difficult to justify as being in the public interest.
They do if taken to court for violating our rights under the conventionordnance wrote:
