I wonder how many of those trying to take action against GT are just doing it because they see a possible financial gain and not because of any actual loss.
plus1 plus1

How many have tried suing any of the large comapanies that have suffered data breaches - and been successful?

Why did the site owners do what they did? There is no stated reason and you can only guess. However, it should be remembered that GunTrader is quite a valuable resource for the shooting community that allows small traders to get a very big audience through a single platform and those wishing to buy can see a lot in one place And all without the political incorrectness of other general trading platforms or the haunts of scammers. If GT disappeared there would be a massive hole to fill and it would not be solved overnight.

If you mean why did Guntrader liquidate they have confirmed on their Facebook page that "Due to a small number of people wanting compensation because their data leaked onto the internet, action had to be taken. Sadly with this compensation culture guntrader.uk could not survive these claims so was forced into liquidation."

If guntrader did just disappear then I'm guessing Gunstar would simply take over the majority of the traffic. though if they went down too I'm now sure who the third biggest online advertiser would be.

If you’ve just spent that about if money on your security, I’d hazard your review was long overdue and woefully inadequate anyway!

Every cloud and all that, it might have die you a favour…

GS site is s***. I can’t be bothered with it.

My security was more than adequate when combined with the cloak of anonymity, now sadly gone until I move address ....

So 'old' Guntrader has passed my details to a new and unrelated company (Guntrader media) without my consent.

Just logged into the new Guntrader Media website using my Guntrader details and while there's no record of my past adverts etc. my address and phone number show up nicely.

Another ICO complaint about to be made......

And to all the 'how dare you sue' posters, I'm self-employed and spend a lot of money on Cyber security and INSURANCE - looks like Mr. Andover was skimping on his Public Liability insurance and THATS why he's done the dirty and voluntarily closed his company down.

On what grounds?

The same grounds that I'd use if my TESCO home delivery account details were given to ASDA - one company can't give my personal details to another without my permission; and don't say that the website is still the same because it isn't, the URL has changed with the old URL having an automatic redirect to the new one.
