I suspect a perceived ageing is to do with the general urbanisation and demilitarisation of post colonial Britain. Far fewer of us come into contact with firearms in our youth these days than in previous generations. My dad shot in the CCF at school and my father in law was the first year not to do national service. That probably means shooting is now becoming less a farming and military tradition and more of a middle age hobby. Something for those of us wealthy and responsible enough to take part but who don't fancy golf. ;)

I'm one such forty-something newbie but I'm trying to offset that by bringing my 14 year old son with me. My two daughters want to come too when their old enough. I think the Appleseed project in the states is interesting. A kind of apolitical back-to-basics revival based around rifle shooting and revolutionary war history but with a tip of the tricorne to civic responsibility and community. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Appleseed

Legally I'm 44, mentally I'm 25, physically I'm 75 and my sense of humour is comparable to a 16 year old.

Just voted, 63 and in a wheelchair. I belong to 3 clubs none of which have enough younger members in them to keep going more than about 10 years if they do not actively recruit members below 50.

I am 60 later this year and having finished the last two gruelling beating days of the season I have to say I am feeling quite good all things considered. :)

Voted 54... twice the magical age of 27, and my God, it feels it!

I suspect that poll is a little bit out of date now. When I voted I was in the 50-59 band now I am in the 60-69 band.

Time passes.
