Can't find the original reference regarding the conversion from 8x50R to 8x56R so I checked the barrel of my M95/30.
Barrel originally stamped in the 1917, average slug measurements from two slugs 0.322 (bore) and 0.335 (groove). The diameter of an unfired 8x56R bullet is 0.335.
PS I hope I've got the bore and groove measurements around the right way!
