Neoprene elbow supports work well for that...

I tried those Dougan but it didn't work and I really suffered. In the end I bought a pair if the NSRA fibre elbow pads which I wear underneath my jacket. I'm just soft I suppose!

I like the Arktis, (now Country Covers) which has a clear pocket for the insertion of a McQueens Target, Course of Fire or a wind Aid Memoire etc.
During the summer months if doing TR I don't bother usually with a mat; if wet I use salopettes.
If shooting CSR, I just get muddy!

I use a green plastic-covered three section folding mat that I bought from Fultons about 15 years ago.
Not cheap, but it has taken a lot of abuse and is wearing well.
Don't get one that is too light or it will blow away down the range when you're not lying on it ...

How big is it when folded? Looks like a right fat bit of kit... does it not hold lots of water when it rains?

I just thought of using the innards from a baby travel cot. It folds up into a bag, the base is in sections so there's a hollow centre you could use for a rifle and other gear. The mat would be waterproof and reinforced so no bother on stony ground. They're only 25 quid too, 96cm long, 67cm wide so a foot shorter and narrower than an aim mat bag combo
I don't read my own signature!
