An AI is going to be my 'pension pressie' when I leave the army. (And glass)

Love them.
Much as iI could get a remi and trick it up, it just wouldn't be the same.

What does the army do with their old AIs?

This is my next rifle, what moa have you managed out of it so far? I assume it's 26" barrel in .308?

I've had exceptional results out of a bog standard AIAW .308 and I'm a bit concerned my future AIAT .260 won't live up to my expectations. There's no reason to think it won't, but I haven't heard any feedback on them yet.

An RFD I was speaking to a couple of weeks ago said, the difference between a Remington 700 and an AI is similar to the difference between an Audi and a Porsche. Curious if others agree.

I know nothing about the differences between Audi and Porsche.Comparing Remington to Accuracy International, other than they are both rifles there is nothing to compare, they use different bolt diameters, general dimensions and geometry. The means of attaching an AI Action to the chassis is very different in that some AI's are bonded. trigger safety and bolt release are different. Barrel attachment is different although they both do use a thread. Some AI's have round receivers so that is something vaguely similar.

AI bolt design has changed recently however at 60 degree 6 lug it still has nothing in common with a Remington.

Regarding accuracy, if it says AI on the side it will shoot.

Agreed! Out of interest, could you build a Remington 700 that could shoot as well as an AI for the same price of an AI-AT .308?

I have seen some superb shooting from 700 Actions and I do think you could get a Remington 700 to shoot every bit as well as an Accuracy International however it would certainly not be quite as capable when it came to hurling into a rain forest from the back of a C-130.

I appreciate it's not meant for military use, but in terms of target shooting, could you achieve the same result at the same price as an AI-AT? At a casual glance, it seems people buy Remington 700's and then spend a fair bit of money getting it the way the want it, why not just buy an AI instead?

Its all part of the fun...... also a new AI stuck next to the value of my sorted FTR rig secondhand would still be about a grand difference bangbang

Yeh I appreciate it's fun to get things exactly the way you want it, but I was just referring to price to accuracy ratio really. What prices would be either side of that £1K difference?

A fair amount of difference really.

I bought my AI for lots of reasons, it being accurate was just one of them.

For example when you come to sell a modded remington, at the end of the day it is still a remington and won't attract the kind of prices that second hand AI's reach (ratio wise).

It's also built like an absolute tank, granted that it's probably not needed for what we use them for, but I've always been a fan of military type rifles.

Speaking about accuracy, the AT shoots very very well, infact every time I fire it on the tunnel range it makes me smile. I'm still doing load development, but next time I'll take some photos / measurements, but they're one hole groups.

It's not fussy on it's ammo, it's British made and it's one of the most accurate rifles out there.

I appreciate they're expensive, but they do hold their value well and when it comes to needing a new barrel they are readily available in a load of calibres.. None of which need a gunsmith to do.

Oh and if you scratch it you can get a replacement set of stock skins for £50ish.
