The new Police LTR are fitted with Bell & Carlson.
Some of the other factory models have similar non-HS stocks.

It was the bell and Coulson stock version I've been looking at. Has the right aesthetic for me and had the strength that the Steyr seemingly lacks.

Buy the gun that you want. Remington and Tikka are of the same level. those with Tikkas swear by those, those with Remingtons swear by those.
If you want a Remington 700, (Like me too, i have the police in .223) go get the Remington 700. lifes too short to wonder what if you bought the one you wanted rather than the one everyone told you to get because of unsubstantiated X-Y-Z.
Second hand is the ticket. I bought brand new and paid a lot more than I should have because I was impatient and couldn't wait for what i wanted off the shelf.
It's had a couple of upgrades, detatchable mag, bolt knob, polished feed ramp and internals as well as being set to minimum headspace, but it's a fantastic rifle. I was surprising the boys with the F-Class rifles last time I was out with it at 600 yards.

I'm just in the process of getting a Savage LRPV in .223, not only a great looking rifle but reading any of the reviews out there it is one of the most accurate out of the box rifles around.

Hi all,
This turned out to be a pretty good discussion! Definitely shows how opinions differ.
I still love the R700 but I've just bought a Steyr Pro Varmint in 223. Maybe the R700 can be my 308 when I add it to the ticket...

Howa are fine rifles, sadly not as fashionable as some.
