Just curious - if a lot of members want a straight-pull forum, where is the harm of having one ?

I know that both admins dont want to but I am just curious as to why ?

Would it be a lot of work to add a sub forum ? What is the downside ?

I suppose its a bit like going into someone's house and saying that you want them to change the wallpaper. :squirrel:

More like a load of regulars at the pub asking the landlord if he would not mind stocking their favourite beer in addition to what he already serves.

I am guessing that some point someone chose the original sub forums based on what would be popular ? Just seems that straight pulls are now popular and even a significant part of the UK shooting scene. Were they even in existance when this forum was created ?

As I said, where is the harm ?

I'm not disagreeing with you. Patrons of a pub have a little bit of sway because they can talk with their feet that doesn't matter here in the same way.

I know a landlord that wont give out the wifi code as he believes it will slow down his iPad if other people are using it.

CentrefireUK and now FullboreUK have been the most inclusive forums that I have known over the past ten years or so, so if there's a reluctance to include AR straight pull rifles it's because of the associated baggage, not because the forums not helpful towards shooters.

I am not a fan boy, but as a rifleman I have been watching the forums for a while and know what causes controversy.

With regard to people power, unlike our country, this site is not a democracy, you are not required to pay taxes and by the same token no-one is forced to be here.

I just want to read about and lust over people's chosen discipline, and am not bothered about the name of the sub forum as long as the content is interesting..

pay taxes

But some of us do pay to keep this forum running. I see you do not....
Almost a fair comment, but..

I do not have a choice about paying taxes to the government, whether I agree with them or not

And, the last time they asked for donations here, I had only just joined and didn't know if the value rated the support. As things stand, I will probably feel differently when the question is asked again.

I believe the membership would like a straight-pull forum for all such rifles not just AR types. It could cover AK variants, Vz-58, AR variants, L1A1/FAL/Imbel, Steyr AUG, M1 Garand, M1 carbine, SKS, Dragunov/Tigr, M-14/ Mini-14 etc etc so a pretty mixed bag

To be honest out of all the rifles I mentioned the AR types hold the least amount of interest but I can still appreciate them even if they aren't my cup of tea.

You missed the Schmidt Rubin series off your list, and the Ross.

The reason for us saying no is that we do not want a leaning towards anything on this forum, fiercely independent is our approach. Also if we start creating sections for specifics like that then we might as well have one for scopes as well and then where does it stop.

I will go over the forum when I get a minute and remove the sections that are no longer needed.

I can see the logic in that.

And to be honest - yes, we could ( and should ) discuss straight-pulls or the AR platform in particular, in the fullbore rifle or rimfire rifle sections but the threads keep getting locked.

I am the first to admit that sometimes rules are broken and then its only fair to lock.

But, sometimes they are locked when no rules have been broken at all.

And sometimes threads that were doing just fine are derailed by a moderator using the word "pretendy" despite knowing from previous use, that it comes across as trolling to many.

Then the same mod decides to lock when the posters "dont behave". The mod can be provocotive but we have to mind our Ps and Qs ?

The request for a specific section was probably, in part, a result of this.

How about a compromise ? How about accepting that these threads will be "passionate" and that "brand loyalty" will be evident ? And allowing a bit of leeway on the "banter" as long as no rules are broken ?

As to the "leave if you dont like it" - CSR forum was mentioned as an alternative but its not appropriate really.
CSR shooter is NOT an AR forum - its a forum for those who shoot CSR. It is shot with Lee Enfields etc in historic class, pretty much anything in practical ( a good mixture of AR, other straight pulls and bolt actions ) class and yes, mainly ARs in service class - but that accounts for only a quarter of the classes. Even then, the ARs used are generally built for that comp - light and no frills - probably not typical of the tacticool ARs used by many who dont compete in CSR.

So, the members dont have an alternitive. They already are loyal to FBUK and just want to enjoy it in relation to their straight pulls too. Just cut them some slack and let them have their banter !
