Problem is Chuck we are not in a position where we can go through the entire statute book and decide a scale of seriousness of crimes. Ironically standard sentencing standards for this type of crime is fairly recent.
In the end the law doesn't care if you think there are more serious crimes, they were presented with a man who flouted the law and applied the sentence required on the statute book.
The court is not actually dealing with what MIGHT happen but with what DID happen. He had Section 5 weaponry and was caught, that is a minimum five years. I have a hunch he will end up in the lowest category prison with day release rights as he is hardly a threat to the public.
