I would disagree with that statement. Yes quality control has arguably declined since the 'good old days', and they have made some poor decisions on stocks and triggers, but it is a stretch to say they don't have a single good product.

I have several Remington products in my safes, and they work well. leaving aside the older Remingtons, my 11-87 shoots like a dream (it's now my go-to gun for sporting clays), I have a 700 Tactical in .308 Win I am quite impressed with, and recently I bought a 1911R1 that is accurate as hell, and quickly becoming my favourite handgun.

Remington seems to have p*ss*d its financial and once mighty R&D resources away on a combination of acquisitions - which it probably overpaid for during the Obama boom years for US firearms sales - and dead end cartridges and projects. (eg the .30RAR and 6.8 Rem SPC cartridges and lots of stillborn projects for the US military.)

It has missed out on most of not all of the ways the market has moved in recent years and is now about the only remaining US manufacturer of bolt-action rifles that doesn't have any 'Blacktical' models or list anything in 6.5mm Creedmoor.

Unlike the second half of the 20th century, Remington has become divorced from the new younger customers who drive the trends, never mind set any trends itself as it did in its Mike Walker days. For instance, having attempted to get Americans to love and buy a mainstream 6.5mm cartridge (the 260 Rem) in 1990 but initially largely failed, as is so often the case with Remington it later failed to spot the subsequent trends that showed they could have had a winner as the market changed. At a time when 260 and 260AI became the cartridge of choice for US sniper and tactical competitors, Remington continued to offer a couple of humdrum cup & core bullet PSP loads for deerhunters only in its Model 7 carbine, failed to support the sport and competitors, failed to see the emerging rifle models being used - high capacity detachable magazines and increasingly 'tacticool', ironically usually built by dynamic smaller companies on 700 actions or improved clones of the 700. That morphed into PRS that is now really driving rifle appearance, design and ammunition trends these days - 6XC, the two calibres of Creedmoor etc. Remington was nowhere in all this unlike Hornady, Savage, Ruger, Howa and others that Americans hadn't even heard of at this stage such as Bergara and Sabatti. In fact during the great ammunition and components shortages of the second Obama administration, Remington stopped production of the 260 for and its brass for three years and people on the SnipersHide forum were going apesh*t over it - the last of the 260 users likely ditched it on the next rebarrel. Meanwhile, a whole raft of small to medium size ammunition producers such as Hunting Shack, Cor-Bon, Prime Ammunition were making high performance 260s including with match bullets - AFAIK, Remington has never offered a match version of the cartridge in its 30 year life!

The last great Remington innovations in the rifle and ammunition fields have been years ago - the PSS and VS type rifles with HS Precision stocks incorporating alloy bedding blocks were real market changers in the late 1980s, but Remington has only added gimmicks to them since while the rest of the industry has moved on ...... and at the same time, there have been accusations of reducing quality control and increased prices when CNC and other investments have seen competitors become faster reacting, increasing quality and offering better value for money. Remy seems happy to remain with the deerhunting Mom and Pop (or more likely Pop and 13 year old son) market which buys a 700, keeps it for 40 years, buys one carton of 20 cartridges every two years, and harvests a couple of whitetail deer every hunting season if they can get the game tickets.

I'd have to disagree with this statement also......
As said in a previous post I have a Remington head shaver which, apart from one of the plastic size/blade thingies breaking has served me well over the years.

From what I can see, the BBC has pumped out the old story from six weeks ago, or so and are trying to imply a tenuous link between that and some children shouting in public and ranting on Facebook...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
