I sort of get the GP time side of the argument*, but the whole risk thing is a joke. Is any GP going to be 'hauled over the coals' if a certificate holder goes berserk?? They don't even do it to police licensing departments when their is overwhelming evidence that they FUBAR'ed e.g. the Horden New Years shootings.

* Though I fail to believe that there isn't a computer program that couldn't analyse a patients record for any relevant condition in milliseconds and do the entire NHS database in a matter of minutes.

Money for old rope - especially as most of the impertinent personal questions a GP might ask will be answered with a lie.
There will come a time when intrusion by the state and private enterprises (for a fee) regarding personal medical records is seen as perfectly normal. Everything from motoring insurance to getting a job will require a letter from your GP and all those foolish moments of frankness will be regurgitated to your cost.

Do you mean the NHS database that they spent £7.5m on before eventually killing the project off in 2016, after working out that they were still nowhere close to getting it working.....?

FIFY!

Well that could have done it but that was an 'all encompassing' system. Extremely simple programs that search for key words or phrases and flags files for review already exist in their multitudes. Rather than every GP with a certificate holder searching themselves a couple of people could be employed to manage the program.

Nice to see BASC stepping up and making a very strong challenge to Lincs who have already started this system,

"BASC is seeking legal advice on this matter"

How absolutely pathetic, they've known about this for years after Durham started it about 5 years ago, surely they should already know the legal position or at least have taken advice when the 2016 agreement wasn't followed and police Scotland started making up the rules.

BASC is a "national" organisation whose only reason for being is to exist at the expense of legal gun owners. Off course they knew this was coming as the old system wasn't working, and never would, but as always they enjoy fiddling whilst Rome doth burn.

Have you guys considered a grassroots takeover of one of these organisations? I’m assuming membership is small and the leadership is democratically elected. Most shooters seem to have a low opinion of the National bodies, so it might be a popular move. Probably easier than starting afresh too. Maybe the way forward is to join en mass and vote in a more hard fighting leadership . I’m not qualified to say how difficult this would be or how to achieve it but I imagine it is at least possible from my ignorance.

Funny how the doctors seemed to be against it on moral grounds and the fact that they didn't want the responsibilty of declaring people fit to own firearms.

Seems as soon as somebody waves some dosh under their noses all this dissappears.

My main issue is it is the police that require the report they should pay for it, secondly I do not trust the professionalism and integrity of doctors any more and think they would use this to further their own agendas if that was anti gun.

Scuba divers medical reports is to ensure their own safety, gun owners reports are to ensure public safety, that is comparing apples and oranges.
