I put the rifle/gun on a light grey/neutral sheet on the bed, stand on a step ladder zoom in on the gun until it fills the frame.Get directly over the rifle to avoid distortion, then crop out anything unwanted.Put a board under the sheet to stop any wrinkles in the sheet.
And just then the FEO drops by for an unannounced inspection and thinks you sleep with your rifle...

That would only happen in Merseyside .

as an add to this
My mate (honstley) was awaiting a visit from his feo , he laid all his guns on the bed ready for inspection .
Knock on the door and he lets in a guy with a brief case and says they are upstairs do you want to see them ? up they go
'VERY CLEAN ' says the guy so my mate mumbles on about looking after them making sure they work propally etc while wonder why a strange quote .
'Anyway im here to see your wife and newborn daughter I am the doctor ........'

If you are using a phone then I find panoramic picture setting works well. Stand over the top and start the picture with the butt in shot filling at least half the view and then slowly walk along the rifle. You will end up with a long, short picture but, as it is built up from several pictures along the length, it will have far more detail than a single photo.

Here is an excellent example of how selective quoting and removal of context can significantly change interpretation:

You assume this wasn't my intended meaning!
