Last Published Accounts on Companies House make pretty dire reading.......
Not sure how their Grand Plan to force individual memebrship is coming along - the presentation they put together earlier this year was amateur, lacked sense and any business acumen and had a large air of desperation about it.
I think the writing has been on the wall for a good few years there.

Don't quite write the NSRA off just yet. The financial situation of the organisation has been dire for as long as I can remember (I first joined a small-bore club in 1977).
I seem to remember a couple of occasions back in the early 80s when there all sorts of allegations being bandied about regarding financial irregularities followed shortly after by changes in officers.
Back then our county representative would dutifully attend all meetings held mid afternoon in central London. He was entitled to submit expenses claims for rail fare and even meals but only ever reclaimed the bare minimum, others would take full advantage. His reports were always highly amusing but at the same time very disappointing regarding the mismanagement of the organisation. He eventually decided that he had wasted enough of his life attending their meetings and no one else in the county association was willing to pursue a pointless exercise either. None the less the NSRA has still managed to plough on even if it is wildly off course.

You see this is why I am so dismissive (perhaps unfairly so in some circumstances) of shooting organisations, they seem inept and dont deserve to have the position they have or the members money they take? Is apathy and status quo really that powerful?

Shooting organisations are the responsibility of their members. The officials are elected and it is the apathy of the members nationwide that allows incompetent management to survive.

When the NSRA sold Codrington House in London there was an outcry from members .
Firstly that they were selling a solid building that was going up in value every year and could have been used to generate income .
And secondly that they were getting a parcel of land that the NRA didnt want and what was nothing more than a couple of tarted up portocabins as their new HQ.

I seem to recall that some members felt that Codrington house was undervalued .

I did visit Codrington House several times , but in the end I felt that if I was going to be insulted I could get a better class of insults from Tom Collins.

Yes Tom Collins - I only met him the once but a bit of a character to say the least, originally from Dowlais Top, Merthyr. His wife was far more fearsome.

Possibly they could have held out for more when selling the London H.Q. but the sale probably saved the organisation at that time. Plus the new Lord Roberts facility was really quite something when originally built. Just a great shame that it hasn't always been used to its full potential, well at least not for shooting anyway.
