An AICS stock is going to be GBP400 used, the 'scope is probably GBP350+ new, add the Rem700 action and work by Armalon (It is worth checking to see what this comprises of) Plus a versapod, it is a reasonable price and probably open to negotiation.

Only thing is the 20 round mag, if it was me it would have to be replaced with something shorter and F/TR is single shot only.

Sounds ok, I'll keep my eye on this. The mag could be changed then!

The downside of a 20 round magazine is it limits how low you can get the rifle and I prefer to be fairly low when shooting. This is a personal thing. I was shooting with a Danish sniper team a couple of years ago, we were using a TRG42 (.338 Lap Mag) They had the rifle so low I could only just slide a finger under the butt so no bag was required, it feel awkward at first but makes for a very stable way of shooting. These days when I shoot 7,62x51 it is with a very small squeeze bag under the butt, that is all that is needed.

Ah I see. I suppose the low centre of gravity just makes a more stable hold! Maybe!! I bet you that was fun shooting with the Danish team??
Do rifles hold there money? Say if you kept something a couple of years would I expect to loose 25% or 50%?? I really have no idea.

More like keeping low presents less of a target but it does work from a shooting viewpoint as well, we get to shoot with the DK Army a few days every year, always fun.

I think if you buy new unless it is something very special you will loose money, same goes for optics (I have a purchased a few second hand 'scopes, saving money and they were all good) If you buy a dedicated purpose custom built rifle then yes you will loose money but a used reasonable quality rifle should hold it's money for a while and an older Service rifle should make money as they are mostly rising in price.

Something very special = expensive! So I think that ones out! Service rifles do seem to hold there money and make very good money. AI rifles seem to be very sort after and don't seem to come up for sale that often! I did look at the AE but really too much to start of with!
I think if I can't find a Remington 700 action rifle with a custom stock, secondhand at the right price i'll probably go for a 700PSS and see how we get on with it as I can take the scope of the Musgrave then all I need is to buy a Bipod. I'm sure I'm going to buy secondhand though, anything to save some reddies to start with.

Second hand is good, make sure the barrel and throat are OK and it does not show any signs of abuse and you should be OK. My S&B PMII 'scope was second hand, it saved me about GBP400 at the time, my Nightforce was half price as it was used and both will sell easily enough so I am sure they were reasonable investments, in fact I would probably get more for them than I paid. I shoot an AI/AE, I will loose money on it and all my other rifles with the possible exception of the service rifles.

I paid GBP235 for my .303 P14, added forty five quids worth of super nice trigger box and a vernier rear sight I picked up for effectively nothing, I would hope to not loose money on it and would keep it to the bitter end along with my Accuracy International. Both are well used and a bit battered and both are far too good to ever get rid of.

It's all about getting a rifle that will do the job for me and my dad that doesn't cost the earth and puts a smile on our face's!! Of course I want to get good groupings as well!!
I suppose if your happy with a rifle like your AE and performs well I wouldn't dream of selling it either.
Now all I have to do is wait for my FAC to come though door!!

Peter Sarony built that rifle for me in 2000. I put about 2500 rounds through it before I sold it to its current owner around two years ago. I understand it has only shot a further 100 rounds in that time. As you would expect from Peter, the quality of the build was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed shooting it. The only reason I sold it was due to needing the cabinet space for an AI AW, which I will never be selling!
