I would also like to point out that if we ever did manage to get a northen, central and southern shooting centas alot of our local clubs would shut.

An open day (for non-certificate holders) once a month would be a good start for most clubs! :good:

Valid point! If this was ever to become a reality then the concentration should be on rifle ranges out to 1200 yds. I firmly believe that this is where the most need is. Too many people have to shoot at the mercy of the MOD under inflated pricing and cancellations at short notice. Advanced targetry and well maintained FPs would be a god send, a little like a spruced up Diggle.

Local Gallery Rifle and PSG clubs would continue to cater for their "trade" as these would never be able to support the level of infrastructure and investment that some of the suggestions require.

Do we want to keep all the current clubs though? We can't have our cake and eat it too, so I'd rather eat it. Personally I've found most local clubs a huge disappointment in terms of facilities and what goes on there. Luckily Bisley is not too far and they're ok there. I'd much rather have a small number of high quality facilities and have to travel a little further than a large number of lackluster clubs.

I agree with this however we have so few high quality ranges in the UK to get to a good location will mean a few hours in the car. This is not a direct criticism of UK ranges, if shooting had the same following as some of the more mundane sports then we would have stunningly good facilities in every county.

yes ;)

Let's face it , the number of UK ranges is hardly Switzerland ... so reducing their numbers even further will serve nobody.
- The future of the sport depends on large numbers of practitioners who are vocal about their sport,
- Far better an average facility close by with complaining members than no facilities at all.
