Nope, just for show.
Not sure whereabouts you live but there will be a number of ARulikes to have a look at at Shield on the weekend of 7th July for the Help4Heroes match - may help you make your mind up. Tricksy decision!

Probably a good thing too on a rimfire!! :o :run:

Ditto to Marks comment above. The forward assist on the spikes is just for show, but on the CMMG is if fully working. Personally I would never recommend the uses of a forward assist on a rimfire.

With regards to the bolt hold open, on a spikes you need to purchase the CMMG BHOA device for $/£ 26 and then you can manually hold the bolt open with the catch after the last round. Either way the both stays open when empty until you drop the mag.

Is the S/A .22LR totally restricted to .22LR or are the .22 magnums and 5mm's allowed in S/A here in the UK?

.22 magnum fine. Legislation states .22 rimfire. ACPO have suggested a "no greater than .22 rimfire", which would open up the .17 semi's.

Alexander Arms in the US is working on a .22 magnum AR.......

The one I was thinking of was the 5 mm Remington Rimfire Magnum however I am not sure if it is still available/available yet.

If a rimfire cartridge is wedged in the action outside of the chamber and you bang on the back of it with a big bit of metal (the bolt) theres a chance of detonation?? It would probably just split the case and shower who or whatever is to the right of you with debris but it still wouldn't be very nice!

The 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum died a death in the mid '70's after about 5 years production. It stayed dead and buried until resurrected by Aguila in the guise of Centurion Ordnance in about 2008 http://www.aguilaammo.com/

A comparison of all three magnum rimfires - http://www.chuckhawks.com/magnum_rimfire_comparison.htm

It seems to be a good performing round and would appear to be a better choice for windy conditions compared to the 17HMR.

S/A in the UK - not unless the law changes. :cool2:

Chance of being available in the UK? There's probably a greater chance of the law changing. :bad:

Oh, you're the big man aren't you!

First, discover the purpose for the bolt assist, then, (with the most sacrcastic tone able to summon) come back and share the wealth of your knowledge and experience.....
