It would appear so - thanks to Blaze publishing, several thousand complaints to Wh Smiths and people power - oh and some "upstairs clout"

Blaze Publishing’s Wes Stanton said: “Thanks to an overwhelming strength of feeling from magazine-buying shooters, WH Smith has had no choice but to overturn its policy. Clearly WH Smith has been embarrassed by the furore around the initial decision, and in our face-to-face private meetings at board level, agreed that it had made a serious error.

“Though it has still not made an official statement – because no statement was made about the introduction of the policy in the first place – in removing the age-prompts WH Smith has now indirectly admitted that it made a mistake in imposing the ban in the first place.
Maybe a call/e-mail to Wes Stanton at Blaze will confirm?"

I think it is very important that a statement is made, just because WHS went about banning the sale of shooting magazines to under 14s quietly does not mean that the reversal of the ban should go unnoticed. It is all about making a point.

I do hope this is not another example of the "BASC said" approach to marketing....

I seem to read a lot of 'BASC said' type editorials so implying they were the only people that were involved in something, they seldom if ever acknowledge the other parties involved and the same may well apply to Blaze publishing, the statement implies they were in top level discussions with WH Smiths which they may well have been however I am sure the emails and comments from everyday shooting fans also had a lot to do with the decision to reverse the original actions.

Ah, I see. From a BASC members perspective, BASC has been hammering this issue hard and they are are not shy in coming forward. If they take the credit because nobody else claims it, then who is at fault?

As a member, I like the fact BASC does a lot of shouting and puts itself forward - at the very least it makes me feel that my membership is money well spent.
