Dont you hate it when you see written history and you know it is not so, because you were there when it happened, or didnt happen.
Thanks for putting me right, Just found this, quite an interesting read.

Oh Jeez don't get me started on that one. You wouldn't believe the number of times I had to prove it was fiction.

Harrier, yep a very interesting read, sure there were bomb and shell craters around the area of the runway from both the Vulcan raids and from naval gunfire, but as I said the runway itself wasn't touched and we/I saw no visible signs of repairs to the runway. Lets face it had they had to fill in a bomb crater it's not something one could miss, the repair would have been quit evident.

Not meaning to put the cat amongst the pigeons or doubt Blu in any way but according to this picture, Blackbuck 1 hit the target.

This one shows the runway was missed, but looking at the picture it is probably Black Buck 2 (see below. You can already see the runway has been repaired (but the miss craters are still visible.)

BB6 Target - AA Fire control radar (Shrike missiles)
BB7 Target - Troop positions near runway.

Sandgroper, hey that's the way it looks mate in the photos but I know what I saw. Could be the photos were doctored for the news and general public consumption (propaganda)? Hell I don't know, I just know what I saw and it doesn't tally with what was put out by the UK government at the time.

Not disagreeing with you Blu, you where there and I was still in primary school!

If we make the assumption it was hit, then it was with only one bomb and relatively early in the war (30th April?) - that makes it quite possible that it was quite well repaired by the time you got there. If you look at the two pictures, the craters near the runway match (apart from the one in the middle of the runway).

However, you where there, which makes anything I say pure speculation!
