Jeez, for the first time I agree with everything Dromia just said!!!!!!

I'm going for a lie down with the shock of it.

But seriously folks......

Spoke to the South West Regional Director of BASC a couple years back at their stand at Frampton Country Fair and whilst he was a nice chap and very affable he was totally dis-interested in supporting anything other than hunting, stalking, clay or bird shooting. I said that a great many of their members shoot target disciplines or practical and that it was a missed opportunity to engage with the people that pay their salaries by expanding their attitude to include these disciplines. I won't hold my breath.

Again, the NRA seem too Bisley-centric and disinterested in regional activities.

I get very envious of our European cousins with very active shooting bodies who embrace more modern attitudes especially with regard to practical shooting disciplines.

The whole discipline nonsense thing is just dead-end thinking and our failed organisations rabbit on about it rather than the real issue which is legal gun ownership.

Until we have some single body actively championing and leading on the one issue of legal gun ownership and advocating for sensible gun owning legislation rather than the cumulatively stupid legislation that are the successive firearms acts along with the failed ban premise that masquerades under the fallacy of safety.

Gun ownership is the one essential commonality that binds all shooters together regardless of the "discipline" shot, that is what we need a national body to focus on not their divisive "disciplines" and competitions, without the legal ability to own and shoot firearms all legal shooting will stop, that is the elephant in the room that our current lot of "national" shysters refuse to acknowledge and start to tackle.

Their heads are in the back stop sand and their arses are in the air awaiting the next Home Office, NABIS, Gun Control and anti legal ownership of firearms shafting.

No update from the UK NRA since the 5th... BASC got in there earlier (4th) then gave an update on the 10th, clarifying the types affected and their stance (not evidence based).

Guessing before the actual consultation starts, there's not that much they can do.

I'm disappointed the NRA haven't given us more updates - it _should_ be more relevant to them (as both the firearms under threat are target rifles).

I've just received an email from the NRA but it doesn't give any more detail than:

"The unwelcome announcement from the Home Secretary on the consultation on “Offensive Weapons” has reminded us that we need to be continually alert to threats against our sport of target shooting. Some might argue there is little logic for civilians owning and shooting .50 calibre rifles or MARS / lever release firearms; however they are fundamentally no different to any other mainstream rifle used for target shooting. To assert that these rifles pose a special risk to the public makes no sense; if we cede further prohibition without challenge with rational argument we will surely encourage those who oppose civilian ownership of firearms to select the next most vulnerable type of firearm for prohibition.

The timing of the announcement is mystifying; such is the success of current firearms licensing that those with evil intent are choosing hire vehicles, kitchen knives and homemade explosives as weapons of choice.

Such unwelcome distractions come at a point when our Bisley ranges are busy, NRA membership buoyant, training programmes for new shooters full and genuine progress being made in improving regional ranges."

I hope they don't really believe the timing of the announcement is mystifying - it would display a naivety beyond belief.
This is something tacked onto all the other 'something must be done for appearances sake' off the back of the Las Vegas shooting in the hope they can push it through as part of the ongoing drip drip erosion of shooting sports.

Has anyone from the NRA spoken to the Home Office yet?

BASC had a meeting and clarified it was just .50 cal and MARS-based action rifles. Whatever the case, certainty is better than contradiction.

The nra's announcement on the 5th of Oct said they were awaiting further clarification and it would seem that hasn't changed,however basc say they've had a meeting and they don't mention lever release being targeted,This time.

i think this has been on the back burner waiting for the right time to release it and Vegas provided the time
