- also I guess people buy Remington's and gradually upgrade them as they can afford it. That's exactly what I planned on doing with mine, but I fell in love with the AI, so that ruined my plans.

I bought mine because I was new to shooting and had a fair few slots to fill on my FAC, with limited funds. The Remi seemed a good bet for starters. As I gained more experience, I upgraded my 308, and my other firearms, as I came to understand what would make my shooting experience better. If you have the money and know exactly what you want, then fine. I've finally filled the slots I had, and I've worked out that including reloading gear, I've spent in excess of £15,000. I'm extremely happy the Remi now, thought there isn't that much left of it! If I had all the money back to start again, I may do things differently.

Matt wrote:Its all part of the fun...... also a new AI stuck next to the value of my sorted FTR rig secondhand would still be about a grand difference bangbang

Not sure on the question but I'll go with what I think you mean tongueout

My remy FTR rig would be worth £1500 second hand (possibly a little more on a good day) this is the grand less than a new AI or thereabouts, this is always going to be better for the buyer as second hand always offers a good saving over new as long as it's a good one :good:

For this or something like this you would be getting something that has been developed over the years for accuracy, built or re barrelled with a 30 inch top quality barrel and generally sorted, top trigger etc in order to get the best out of it.

The beauty with this type of set up is that you can make it how you want it, if you get into long range accuracy etc you can keep it in its FTR set up (bag rider, decent bipod mount system and minus it's not needed heavy bits like the original bipod mounting system and sling mounts etc you can do and it will return very good results at 1000 all day long (wind reading and ammo skills down to the shooter  ) , if you have the feeling to make it more tactical you can easily bolt all the bits back on it such as adjustable butt pads, rear mono pods and a choice of tactical type bipods, decide what set of stock sides (thumb hole or pistol grip) and in what colour you fancy and your off :good:

In terms of accuracy (without getting into an argument over what's best  ) a well set up remy like this gives really good accuracy at long range at silly small F class targets, all depends on what you want it for really but the platform as you already know is very versatile.

If you want an AI then go with what your heart tells you, if you want something along the lines of an AI then a modified and well sorted cheaper remy option might be for you (let me know if you would like to see mine in its FTR guise and I'll dig one out bangbang )

I wish I knew.
We retired all the old L96's when the sharpshooter came in.

So thinking about 10 per infantry/ cav battalion/ regiment that's a lot of surplus 7.62 rifles stacked up somewhere.
Might have to ask..

Personally, I found the AI stock to be bloody uncomfortable! I had an AE and couldn't get on with it at all..... Too broad in shoulder, too barrel in chest, too long in neck, too short in torso....

Try one first if you can....

As promised, taken whilst setting up ready to shoot (note the scores from the last shooters tongueout ) the barrel didn't come out properly in the photos as they were taken under the low level shelter that had been kindly set up for us all :good: and it must have confused the camera phone's light settings)

In terms of accuracy as per one of the questions earlier in the thread relating to this type of set up........ chuffed to bits with my first league medal in one of the weekends five competitions at 1000yds razz , only a bronze and still got loads to learn though as I'm sure it will be a while until I see my next one tongueout , didn't do so well on the rest of them but that's the joys of FTR for you, good gun, good additions by Mik Mak (Barrel), Ovenpaa (ace bipod, bag rider and loading kit) and constant help, support and p''s taking from Tim (ENS) and our small and imperfectly formed training gang of few including Maggot and Tom make it all worth while
