All the stuff about Hamilton not being thought to be a fit person to have an FAC is well documented fact, both from the police perspective and local shooting clubs who refused him membership.

The only club that Hamilton was a member of at the time was a small bore club so he had no good reason to possess full bore firearms regardless of the historic questioning of his suitability, the DCC did fly in the face of all advice from his staff over a period of time that Hamilton was not a fit person to have firearms. As to why the DCC chose to do so remains a mystery and all the stuff about the masons, pedophile links and men from outer space is just speculation.

What is a fact is that the DCC retired immediately after the shooting having consistently failed to act on the evidence and recommendations against Hamilton owning firearms.

Dromia, what is a proven fact is the fact that Hamilton being a Mason is BS and probably brought into play by the conspiracy theorists. I mean c'mon, what's a good conspiracy without the Masons, the Vatican and beings from outer space

As I said, even if Hamilton had been a mason it would still only be speculation as to why the DCC chose to ignore the recommendations as to why Hamilton shouldn't have an FAC. It should have been McMurdo on trial.

McMurdo was a personal friend of Hamilton, they both dove (plural for dive??) together and took trips on Hamiltons boat. Its documented in the minutes/transcript when McMurdo was questioned as part of the inquiry.

Sandra Uttley who was a local paramedic at the time and went on to write Dunblane:Unburied even claims that McMurdo perjured himself when he was asked how he knew Hamilton as he said it was because Hamilton was always harrassing him at the police HQ and only admitted the personal relationship when pressed. To be fair though Sandra Uttley now believes that the whole incident was cooked up by the security services just to take handguns off the public ..... tesnews

The media circus around the whole tragedy prevented McMurdo from being fully uncovered. Journalists were far too busy "creating a sport full of baby killers" to even consider that the incident had been easily preventable...

I'm sure that the documents classified by Lord Cullen contain it all.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I met a bloke at a party 3 weeks ago who was a personal friend of Noye. He told me that he & Noye met at the same gun club. Noye had legal & illegal firearms. Ive read a book, that stated that he was a mason, kept a shotgun in the cupboard & when he went to kill DC Fordham, his wife Brenda armed herself with his shotgun. The shotguns were part of his 'country-squire' lifestyle. Im certain that some of the Brinks Matt gold ended up on his property & also why send an unarmed Detective Constable (Who was a qualified AFO)without a .38 revolver to stake out a gangsters movements on his land?
