I measured some fired cases outside neck diameter = .340.
Inside neck diameter = .312
They were fired with cast boolits but I think the boolits may have been undersized for the bore probably about .310 don't know if that means any thing.
I had a read in the Library GULP. Oh my Gawd things generally go very wrong for me when I start shoving stuff down the bore that not supposed to naturally go there. Not sure about this chamber impact thingy. Need to think this one through.

I been thinking about this impact cast thing it just come to me we do this kind of thing at work we have a lot easier method than that. Ill check it out on Monday.
I have got this right I need to make a cast of the whole of the chamber then measure every thing up with a view to making a boolit that fills the chamber rather than just been sized to the groove size.

Should I be posting this here or in my original AIA thread in the reloading forum.
First impressions.
In the gun room.
I cleaned the bore using several copper fouling removal cleaners. I ran patches through it till they came out clean.
I removed the muzzle thread protector it just screws off so no issues. The muzzle crown is not very pretty I would advise any one that owns one of the AIA type of rifles to remove the flash hider and inspect and clean the muzzle crown often. Crud builds up under the flash hider.
I have slugged the bore pictures to follow with a explanation how it was done.
I have now moved to the shed for the second part.
I don't have any solid rod to do the impact cast but I do have some small bore stainless tube so I am going to tap it and fit a grub screw into the end of it. If that works out the impact cast will be attempted after lunch.

I slugged the bore twice I now know for certain the AIA (Australian international arms before any one asks ) bore is .312. So Im looking for a boolit in .313 for this project.

Their are a lot of pictures so Ill deal with the cleaning and slugging the bore here first. Then Ill cover the chamber impact cast in the proper forum.

First of the soup cans I have been using are .311 this may be part of the problem. I probably specified .311 when I ordered them so that's my fault. I should of done this exercise in the first place before going down the cast boolit route. But not to worry its a easy enough job to recycle them through a different mould. Im sorting the pictures out then Ill post them. Hmm

Don't know if it's any use but loads of us at our club shoot Andy Allwoods cast 140gr (gas checked) boolits in our AK's. We download to 6gr of Red Dot (~.44sp equiv load) and I often use pulled steel cases to load. Get fantastic results at 25yds, easily equivalent to Winchester shooting .38's.
His bullets are approx £17 per 100 and have to be loaded long (mag length) to ensure clean feeding.

What diameter are they thanks for the info. Have you a picture of the boolit. I have all ready worked out that this rifle likes boolits loaded long may be its a quirk of the 7.62x39.

It will like boolits loaded short that fit the freebore even better.

It is not a quirk of the calibre but the way your chamber appears to have been cut.

Right slugging a bore. The first thing you need to do is make sure the bore is clean and all the copper fouling is removed. I used various cleaners to achieve the end result first I sprayed it with bore foam. Then patched it out. I then used other solvent cleaners running patches through the bore then dry patching until the patches came out clean. It did not take that long. By the way ignore my gun room its like a bomb site. The rifle in a gun vice and the various cleaning materials.
