Ironically I shot alongside an SO19 officer at this years Imperial McQueens match; forget his name but he was doing very well when I left.

I was thinking the same thing of my '39 91/30......save the police a fortune if they just issued them with old Mosins!!!.

Was D11 back in my day (or rather my late fathers) and it was one of the original D11 instructors trained by the Small Arms Wing of the School of Infantry in the late 60's that first taught me to shoot as a teenager. That was only 6 months after he was one of the Met's Enforcer sniper team deployed at the Balcombe Street siege.

Funnily enough, I read that the USMC scout sniper qualification shoot has changed - they no longer go for head shots and a hit on the 6" x 4" torso is enough.

Soviet Russian/Russian Federation sniper (equivalent to Western Designated Marksman) doctrine has always been centre mass shots, has changed a bit since they have incorporated true snipers equipped with SV-98, Orsis and AI bolt action sniper rifles.
