Those cases above are exception ; prob they weren't charged due a grand jury (member s of the public ) refusing to authorise an indictment (some
States as taxes still use grand juries)

There was a case some years back where a home owner off loaded into a German student who broke into his garage ! The police found it to unreasonable force he was charged and convicted and was sentenced to life !

He didn't break into the garage; they left it open, unlocked and put a handbag on a table in the entrance as 'bait'. They rigged up motion sensors and as soon as they were tripped he shot blindly into the garage over and over again with no warning.

Thankfully they eventually saw sense in that case but prosecutors didn't initially want to press charges.

It must have been a dull childhood then ;) At that age we were forever over farmers fields with an airgun pinched from an older brother, a bag of bangers or some wicked home made bows or catapults. Blooming reprobates :)

If the CPS / DPP and plod actually followed on the law on self defence instead of using as a stick beat anyone who dares to defend themselves with a weapon, Its actually not a million miles away from the castle dectrine !

Criminal law act 1967 section 3 allows use resonable force for the prevention of crime
Includes the use of pre-empetive strike

2010 - resonable force upgraded for home defenders -

PACE - 1984 resonable force to make an arrest for an indictable offence

Mistaken self defence also is still self defence if a reasonable man would of acted the same way

Things get messy over here as the mere presence of a firearm, even if empty and used as a 'prop' to deter action, will get the homeowner in schtuck.

This however, is what I would consider a perfectly valid application of the law in the US both morally and legally; also the shopkeeper looks like George Lucas or Santa Claus. (Don't watch if you don't want to see a criminal getting shot. No gore but better forewarned):

I think he might over oil his gun though judging by all that smoke! Either that or he's proper old school and has loaded his .45's with black powder! lol

In the split second before he died he seemed to be planning going all Lara Croft guns akimbo.

You can imagine if that happened here ! Burglars and scum seem know they will be treated as the victim that they have no problems going to police to make an compliant AFTER just burgling someone's home and even ADMITTING to doing so as result of getting injured by the home owner this has happened a few times already !

If you look at the number of cases nowadays when people are convicted of some nasty stuff then allowed to walk, the crims KNOW they are on a winner, especially the wimmin types. They seem to avoid jail no matter what they do.

There was a terrorism message flying about from HM Gvt which spouted the usual "run hide tell" nonsense (playgound advice)... they actually stated that self defence / fighting back was "a contentious point" Jezzuz H, only in the UK. Wish I could find the link, will keep looking.

This is amusing - if it were not so true: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhbivQsdHbE

They do not mention the horrendously high rates of sexual assault which largely go unpunished. This is due to females not wanting to bring "shame" to the family name. A totally different culture which is impossible to compare to ours or America. Trust the anti gun crowd to try and make it look as if a lack of guns is the reason. They have loads of Katanas but murder by sword is pretty low there as well..
