Looks like we need an Old Ford Fan sub-forum on here
:) reminds me of going the Olympia 1969 motorshow and seeing a Capri for the first time, it looked like a spaceship compared to the latest Hilman Minx or Austin A60 with slightly different headlights.
I ordered one there and then but it took around four months to arrive, 1600 XLR, White with black bonnet. Happy days. :)
I had a Minx estate.........paid 125 quid for it in 1972...........

Later on I had a Mk1 Escort which was such a wreck, it got stolen one day and I found it dumped about 50 yards down the road. Even joy riders didn't want to drive it.

A basic Capri 1300 was about £880 when they first came out - My GT 1600 was £1280. I really fancied an Opel Mantra but at £1,600 new it was out of my reach. I kept the Capri for around 18 months then sold it for a deposit on a house. So straight from the Capri to a 1953 Austin A30 (£40, 803cc) it was a four door which I later learned was quite a rarity with only around 500 made.
The old A30 soon sported an 1098cc engine from Mk2 A40, MG midget head and twin SU's and associated bits and was later fitted with a 1275 Marina engine.
