Mate my overheads are absolutely minimal, I am a one man band.
With a passport renewal very few enquiries are normally involved, the passport office has also downsized and introduced new technology something the various police forces have failed to do. If you actually work out the number of hours spent on a renewal by a FEO it will be something around half a day, then you have to provide them with transport that comes at a cost, plus then office and administrative support. I have a fair idea of what's involved because I used to do a very similar job but we were instructed to consider smart working and e-commerce several years before the police service who have a long way to go to catch up.
Of one thing I am certain though and that the police service could cut the cost of administering the firearms act considerably if only they wise up and not just work harder but work smarter. Consider such things as agile and remote working, do away with paper based files whenever possible and be more flexible.

Re: FAC to cost £200
something that I had to agree to disagree with my FEO and the admin staff about on my recent one for one, strangely whoever issued the variation, agreed with me, however if I had been the type to give up when told I was wrong, then the one for one would have been at a cost.christel wrote:Polchraine, you have a very valid point, however don't forget all the one for one variations that are free of charge.
Re: FAC to cost £200
Why not just let the tax payer fund it entirely. It is a public service, after all.......
Re: FAC to cost £200
Why don't the proof houses put towards it? Their legal licence to print money benefits directly from FAC grants etc and I'm not convinced their fees are quite proportional to the work they do.
