There was no mention of them wanting to ban MARS or lever release's. I wonder if the thing that Matt referred to was that bit where he talks about converting imitations maybe?
probably, with ACPO (or whatever these odiots call themselves) making a few suggestions
They are called the NPCC now, I'm a bit more relaxed but not fully. Not until I know we're in the clear. I don't know what to say in what I'd say in an email though. I'm guess there are some here who know more what should be said?

That would be nice, who's the most articulate, well read and able to argue well without going off tangent on there then? And like I said before in this instance letters for the mp's as they have to legally respond to them. Although emailing the commission seems a good idea too.

i will be emiling the commission tomorrow! i will prob be stressing they should not target legal gun owership or legal firearms! i will stress the last review saw no reletion to gun crime from lawfully gun owners. highlighting the following;- the sillyness of the section 1 and 2 systems, all firearms should be on a section 2 type basis, get rid of the verations etc, the pistol examption in NI, i cant think of anymore, suggestions will be helpful

pistol examption in NI
That will go in one ear and out the other, they won't want to get involved in NI politics.

Well the article does get off to a rather bad start using the picture of a gun that isn't classed as an antique despite being a old design. A Browning Auto 5 shotgun is not a Section 58 antique, it can be a S1, S2 or a deac! It is illegally sawn off but that is another matter. It does expose one of the more absurd aspects of UK firearms legislation in that you don't need a ticket to posses shotgun cartridges. Illegally held shotguns are a far greater problem than S58 guns or deacs IMHO.
I also want to know the details of this "Legally held antique" Lanchester Sub Machine Gun, as it chambers 9x19mm Parabellum I am unclear how it could ever be classed as S58. It would be classed as S5(1)(a) as it is a fully automatic/burst fire weapon. As far as I could make out it would have to be held by somebody who has an appropriate S5 ticket or it would need to be deactivated.
I smell Continuity ACPO and NABIS feeding porkies to the press again!

NI politics or not they NI still come under UK law and they made specifically exampt from the ban! my point being since they have still have handguns on section one, there is NO increase risk to the public nor has gun crime gone out of control !
the 1988 ban (self loading centre fire rifles) applies to NI

No you are right, I don't think anyone politicians or others really believed it would cut gun crime. The ban was a political move to try and win votes and popularity. If there are changes they will bring NI in line with the rest of the UK not the other way round.
The Gun Control Network (GCN) and the Northern Ireland Women's Coalition (NIWC) both believed that Northern Ireland should be brought more closely into line with the rest of Great Britain. The GCN believed that research in other parts of the world demonstrated a link between gun availability - specifically, handgun availability - and gun death; for the NIWC, the question was the realisation of a 'normalised' society in Northern Ireland. While handguns remained in circulation, "the people of Northern Ireland [were] being denied a safeguard which is available to the rest of the population of the UK".[

There's been some good points made about this already, including someone on the blog comments pointing out that as worded, the proposal to widen the definition of component parts could end up licensing magazines by stealth.
