Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
So, what do you say to my post re buffer tube removal - does that render a sec1 12" AR suddenly sec5 ?
Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
And where does the law refer to shortening a sec 1 barrel ? There is specific mention of shortening a shotgun barrel but I cannot fing ANY reference to shortening a section 1 barrel.
Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
So, when a customer brings in his 12" AR to have the buffer tube and buttstock replaced, you remove same. Do you then enter it in your section 5 log as a sec 5 firearm or do you just put on the new tube and stock rendering it over 24" again ?
Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
Where is the letter from the Home Office to the Sec5 authority giving them permission to convert a Sec5 aba component to Sec1 and transfer it?
Glad you got what you wanted but I would not have touched that work.
When you shorten a Section 1 barrel to sub 12'' you create a Section 5 aba component thats why my authority states I am allowed to hold and manufacture component parts for Section5 a and aba firearms.
As for the buffer tube, if the removal reduces the length to under the legal limit and the firearm can still function then dont do it.
The original sub raven had a removable suppressor shroud allowing access to the baffles of the suppressor. We never sold that later CMMG version but you would have had to clean the crown as best you could internally, store the rifle inverted ect....

Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
Its a Section1 firearm as long as its not converted and assembled as a section 5 firearm its fine. In the same way a lower receiver doesn't suddenly turn into a section 5 component when the buffer tube is removed.breacher wrote:So, when a customer brings in his 12" AR to have the buffer tube and buttstock replaced, you remove same. Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
So are you saying that if somebody removes a buffer tube on a 12" AR with the intention of replacing it - they have created a sec 5 firearm which remains so even if they replace the buffer tube ?AR15 wrote:Where is the letter from the Home Office to the Sec5 authority giving them permission to convert a Sec5 aba component to Sec1 and transfer it?

See above^^^^^^^^ its fairly straight forward.
Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
Why can you not just be helpful and answer ( like I did when you asked )

Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
And do you have a link to the act and section in legislation that relates to shortening rifle barrels ?
You said " The law states that if you take a chambered barrel and cut it below 12'' then it immediately becomes a component part of Section 5 aba"

Re: Permanently attached suppressors ?
There is no statutory definition of "component part". There is case law, R v Clarke and R v Ashton that have given judgement and Home Office guidance advises in Chapter 3 of the current issue, as to what constitutes a component part.
Likewise, the component part of a prohibited weapon is by the virtue of the Act, itself prohibited. However, that part needs to have been assembled as a constituent of the prohibited weapon to generate that status. Hence, a 20 inch barrel taken off a select fire M16 is a prohibited component part and always will be. However, a 20 inch barrel removed from a straight pull s1 AR, is a s1 component. Chop that s1 barrel to 11 inches, it remains a s1 component and continues to be s1 when a two inch muzzle brake is welded on and then fitted back onto the s1 straight pull.
However, if at the stage when the s1 barrel was cut to 11 inches, it was then fitted back to the s1 straight pull, the firearm is now prohibited as per s5, as the components will then always be, from then on.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
