Then at the end of your post when you say you have had a Saiga AK and do own a Ruger Mini 14 in 7.62x39 these are both pretendy in your world, & that will be a Mini 30 if it's in 7.62x39 you do not use the word Pretendy because they were/are yours, double standards or what.....
goodjob

My SVD/SKS/AKM are all made in exactly the same factories, on the same lines, to the same design and from the same parts as the military rifles and shoot the same ammunition........albeit without a gas system.

Very nice selective quoting to suit whatever agenda you are trying to pursue, I actually referred to them as "straight pull" to identify them, call them pretendy if you want it wouldn't bother me in the slightest, however "pretendy straight pull" wouldn't fit, but hey miss the point and twist things all you want it won't change anything.

If people choose to be offended then that is their choice.

Am I missing something?........it's you that calls them pretendy, not anyone else!.

I think I must have read your "pretendy" word one too many time ... But they are indeed "pretendy" because they don't operate exactly the way they were intended/designed to operate. Fact . However, constantly stating this very obvious fact to UK based shooters is rather "strange". I wonder what purpose it serves except being antagonistic ?

I'd actually love to see a moderator on a Swiss forum telling one of its member that the very Fass 90 that he used in the army for 20 odd years is now "pretendy" on the basis that the Full Auto selector as been removed by the arsenal. "Grotesque & absurd" are the 2 first words that spring to mind ... kukkuk

BTW, if there were a dedicated sub-forum for "AR's & AK's", the users should also agree not to slag each other due to their own preferences . Bantering is ok and of course you are actively encourage to call my a primate commi frog :good:

Good point, but if we call UK compliant straight pull AR's "pretendy AR's" then should we not call AR-15's "pretendy M16's"? ;)

My My, aren't people getting all twitchy....

And there was me thinking that Shooters were a non-PC bunch, and therefore not thin skinned enough to worry if someone called their pride and joy a "pretendy" AR...

I have an AUG and AKM, and Dromia can call them "pretendy" all he likes, it won't affect my enjoyment of them.

(Although of course he is correct.. the A in AR, AUG and AKM is for Automatic, which ours cannot be so they're not "real" AR's, AUG's or AKM's....)

Well - I just posted and it disappeared - not sure what happened.

Anyway - it was.......

Adam, what is it you get out of using the term "pretendy" ? It clearly winds up some people ( rightly or wrongly )

Its not as if you HAVE to use it - so how about just dispensing with its use to keep the peace ? Just a thought............

If people refer to them as straight pull ARs or some such term that recognises what they really are then there would be no need for other descriptions.
